Thailand Part 3

We moved to another hotel called Asia Hotel.

On day 4, we had initially decided to visit Wat Pho, which was home to the Reclining Buddha. However, it was the monk's lunch break by the time we arrived there. Since we had about an hour ++ to spare, we had a detour.

Park
We passed by a park while wondering around.

We were wondering around looking for someone to ask for the directions. An elderly man suggested several places for us to go and advised us to go on a Tuk Tuk.

Tuk Tuk
So this is how a Tuk Tuk looks like from the front. It is an open-aired taxi and much smaller than the width of a car.

Our Tuk Tuk
The driver
Before taking a ride on the Tuk Tuk, it is advisable to agree on a fare before driving off. Tuk Tuk drivers are well known to have raise up the prices of rides, especially towards foreigners.

Our first destination was to a temple.

This was not a tourist populated area and the temple was empty. Just a few monks and....

More cats!

"Go away! I want to sleep"

Cats are extremely photogenic creatures. Unlike dogs, they are way less hyperactive and most of the time, they just ignore you.

Upon walking out of the temple, the Tuk Tuk man insisted on showing us turtles.

Next stop was a Jewellery Shop

It was around 2pm and we decided to return back to Wat Pho.

Thailand Part 2

On day 3, we spent the earlier part of the day at Chatuchak Weekend Market. It is one of the largest markets in the world, and there were people selling virtually almost anything. Prices were reasonable, and you could bargain if you wanted to. The downside was that it was open air, the heat was pretty intense at times. Fortunately, it was easy to get chilled drinks from the road side vendors.

One of the first carts we came across was a lady selling wall stickers for 20 baht each. Sometimes i really wonder if they really are able to make a profit out of it, or if they even break even. How in the world do they survive!

Anyway, thats my dad's hand in the picture. We bought 3 of them in the end.

And of course there were imitation goods.

After browsing around the marketplace, we headed back to the hotel to look at the shops near that area, including Siam Paragon, Siam center etc.

Siam Paragon is one of those rare places where you can actually find a Balenciaga Boutique. Unfortunately, i didn't take any pictures as i was too busy taking it all in and looking around.

We ate at a delicious Japanese restaurant called Nippon Kai which we actually visited another time before the trip ended. I have some pictures of the second time we ate at the restaurant which i will post in another post.

Thailand Part 1

Hello! I was in Bangkok, Thailand for the past couple of days. Its my first time there and it was indeed a very different experience.

Four Seasons Hotel
Four Seasons Hotel is a Six Star hotel located close to Phloen Chit road, which is their version of "Orchard Road" of Singapore.

The first day when my family and I arrived, it was pretty late. We checked into the hotel and took a snack before sleeping for dinner.

Four-faced Buddha
Saw the famous four-faced Buddha while going out for the snack.

On day 2, we took a boat ride at the river. Tickets are mad cheap, 14 Baht for a boat ride. That is less than 1USD.

Yes, the water is that colour. For someone who is used to seeing water in its unpolluted form, or rather, less polluted form, this came as a great shock to me.

Took the boat to the Grand Palace, which is a hugely popular tourist destination. It is essentially a huge temple.

Changing of Guards

The vibrant colours of the buildings never failed to impress me that day. Especially under the sunlight, it was bathed in a golden hue that made it a joy to sight-see, even though the temperature was near inhumane conditions.
